Welcome...

Constitutional Tales Website
This website is a resource in exploring the North Carolina Constitution and its history for lawyers, educators, judges, students, policy-makers, historians, and absolutely anyone with an interest in North Carolina. North Carolina has an incredibly rich history. And because of courageous leadership, we have one of the best constitutions in the country in creating a fundamental right to education.
Constitutional Tales is about sharing this legacy up to our present day constitution. So far, Constitutional Tales have been shared through live presentations. Ann McColl, an attorney and developer of the Tales, delivers the presentations using original documents and photographs and voice recordings. The State Capitol event on November 5, 2009, was the first full production, using actors to stage debates. To learn more, go to Presentations. You can check out photographs from the State Capitol event in the Photo Gallery.

Why this Website?
This website allows the Constitutional Tales project to serve another important purpose: to share resources to allow you to pursue your interests.
Go to Resources & Links to see the initial offering. You’ll find some original photographs and archival documents used in the Tales, an extensive annotated bibliography, and weblinks to get you to the rich resources available in our state and university library collections.
Constitutional Tales is not a one-way conversation: “we, the people” can engage in discussions on how the Tales relate to current policy and legal issues and how the Tales shape our understanding of our shared history. Go to the Constitutional Tales’ Blog to weigh in on issues.
You don’t know what the Constitutional Tales are about? Go to About the Tales. Want to become involved? That would be terrific! Learn more how other individuals and organizations have participated in Collaborators and more about possibilities, including donations, in How to Participate.
What’s the next step for Constitutional Tales? That’s under exploration – and your ideas are welcomed – just join in on the Blog on this issue or contact Ann McColl. Hope you enjoy it and find it useful. Visit often and get to know your constitution.
